The Female New Wave

Women have always been an important pillar of the creative industry, and yet they haven’t always gotten the credit they deserve. However, the number of female directors who are making a name for themselves in the film industry has seen a major increase in the past couple of years, and continues to grow. This past year alone, the award for Best Film was given to female filmmakers at Cannes, Venice and San Sebastián, to name a few.

Is the film industry finally seeing a result from the intense work made on making women more visible behind the scenes, and what does this mean for the future of the filmmaking? Stockholm International Film Festival works towards bringing more female filmmakers out of the darkness, and during this panel we aim to discuss the female filmmaking, both from a directors point of view, but also from an Industry point of view.

This panel will discuss female directing in the past year, and the future of a more gender diverse film industry. Joining the panel is Luána Bajrami (director), Nathalie Álvarez Mesén (director) and Anna Serner (former CEO of SFI).

This conversation is moderated by Helena Lindblad.

*Restricted to industry accredited guests only.
